Message from the Chair

The Harrisburg Public School Foundation board of directors, all community volunteers, supports Mayor Reed and Dr. Gerald W. Kohn and the entire Harrisburg School District as they strive to improve education for Harrisburg children and youth.

Funds donated to the District through the Foundation constitute only a small percentage of the budget on which Harrisburg School District depends to continue providing programs important to the children and, by extension, the City of Harrisburg. However, it is an important percentage because the funds go to support innovative programs that are not fully funded by traditional funding streams.

This support is possible because residents and business leaders understand the importance of a healthy public school system not only to the current residents of the city but also to the city's ability to attract new people and businesses to the area.

Progress within Harrisburg School District reminds us of what can be accomplished with visionary leadership, solid programming, and sound administration. As the single, largest on-going donor to Harrisburg School District, the Harrisburg Public School Foundation works on behalf of several fine programs, including but not limited to the Harrisburg PreK Program and the School of Business and Industry. The Foundation also assists in fundraising for special projects and services, as well as scholarships for graduates of Harrisburg High School. The breadth of this support and programming speaks to the attention each Harrisburg student receives from pre-school through graduation.

From my vantage point as chair of the board, I see the Foundation continuing to mature and to forge new vital links between the District and the broader Harrisburg community. I invite you to join us in supporting this important mission.
